After several years of living in Vṛndāvana and serving his guru, the creator of this gośālā, Śrī Haridās Śāstrī, following his gurudeva’s instruction, went to Vārāṇasī where he studied and mastered thirteen different fields of study in Indian philosophy. After studying all of the śāstra, he decided to dedicate himself to the care and protection of the Go of Vraja.

Gośālā

The standard of gośālā maintenance at Śrī Haridās Nivās follows the statements of the scriptures: Go live in the large gośālās, provided with light and fans, and each Go has his or her own private space. Some robust bulls have even been given their individual quarters!

Special attention is given to keeping the gośālās clean and healthy at all times. The feeding of each Go is regularly monitored. In the gośālā a routine is followed in which the workers as well as the inhabitants of the āśram are involved. Every day these loving creatures are allowed to roam freely in the open air within the āśram premises. Each Go‘s medical needs are attended to immediately, and a qualified veterinarian visits the gośālā on a regular basis.

The love for Go that is seen at Śrī Haridās Nivās is expressed through a unique activity – feeding laḍḍūs to each Go! To begin with, the best ingredients are bought in the market. Then the Halwais who are hired come to the āśram and prepare delicious laḍḍūs under the strict quality control of the inhabitants of the āśram. This ensures that Go, God’s special creation, is served delicious, high-quality laḍḍūs each day until they are fully satisfied.
